As you might have been able to guess….I am not a dessert person.  If I had to choose between sweet and savory, I would pick savory every time.  But I do enjoy a good dessert now and then.  Summer is coming.  That means….berries!!  My husband makes this berry-inspired fruit salad for us.  We use the leftovers to top our whole wheat waffles and pancakes the next day.

Two boxes of fresh blueberries

One large box of fresh strawberries

One large pineapple

One small box of blackberries

Optional: one mango

                  Two kiwis


Thoroughly rinse all the fruit.  Chop the strawberries, pineapple, mango and kiwis into pieces about the size of the blueberries.  Mix well and macerate with a potato masher for a few minutes.  Add two tablespoons of agave nectar if needed.  You can add one tablespoon of vanilla and/or one teaspoon of cinnamon if you like.  For a separate, adult portion you can add 1/3 cup of Bacardi Rum.  Ladle over your favorite granola, grapenuts cereal, vegan cookie, soy milk ice cream, or almond milk ice cream.
