Bagel Toppings

I grew up in Pittsburgh so a really good bagel was something I was not familiar with until I moved to New York City in 1992.  After a few weeks in New York City, I learned to appreciate a good bagel and even had my favorite places for one. 

When I changed my lifestyle to a plant-based one, one of the first hurdles I faced what looking for something to put on my bagel.  Turns out there are a few excellent options.  I stay away from the processed vegan cream cheeses because they are almost all oil and saturated fat. 

Of course you need a tasty whole grain bagel.  Most places are offering whole grain options.  I like mine toasted but that is up to you.

Try topping your whole grain bagel with the following:

Hummus (homemade) , tomato, baby spinach

Peanut butter (just a thin layer) and sliced banana, strawberry or kiwi


Ripe avocado slices, cucumber, tomato and red onion with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar

Cucumber slices with miso
